1) Research on Food Quality and Safety

Improvement of food quality and safety in traditional meat products and cheeses, as well as in fruits (such as olive tables), with the use of starter cultures and/or essential oils of aromatic and medicinal plants. 

-"Molecular Basis of staphylococci resistance to smoking in dry-fermented meat products", FCT Grant financed by FCT (SFRH/BPD/108802/2015).

-“Utilização de óleos essenciais de plantas aromáticas na conservação e aumento da segurança de alimentos da dieta Mediterrânica”, financed by ICAAM under Project UID/AGR/00115/2013.

-TREASURE-“Diversity of local pig breeds and production systems for high quality traditional products and sustainable pork chains", Research & Innovation Action financed by the EC under the H2020 program, grant agreement no. 634476, in course.

2)  Research on Small Ruminant Mastitis

Study of etiological agents: virulence factors, antimicrobial susceptibility, investigation on new products for treatment and control.

-" Staphylococcus aureus causador da mastite caprina e ovina em regiões do Brasil e Portugal: resistência a antimicrobianos, produção de fatores de virulência e atividade antimicrobiana in vitro da própolis vermelha, verde e castanha” (Caprine and ovine mastitis-causing Staphylococcus aureus in Brazil and Portugal regions: antimicrobial resistance, virulence factors production and in vitro antimicrobial activity of red, green and brown propolis).

PhD Students: PhD in agrarian and Environmental Sciences, PhD in veterinary science.
